Arithmetic groups and 3-manifolds

Arithmetic groups provide a fruitful link between various areas, such as geometry, topology, representation theory and number theory. Methods from geometry and topology hinge on the fact that arithmetic groups are lattices in Lie groups, whereas the theory of automorphic forms establishes a connection to representation theory and number theory. This interplay is especially intriguing in the setting of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Indeed many conjectures in 3-manifold theory tend to be much more accessible for hyperbolic 3-manifolds whose fundamental groups are arithmetic, and conversely such manifolds provide the simplest set-up in which some of the most exciting new phenomena in the Langlands program can be studied

Higgs bundles at infinity II

The workshop is the second of a series of meetings for researchers in the field of Higgs bundles. It is intended to integrate young scientists and to give them the opportunity to present their work and to establish new contacts. Applications for financial support for young participants are open until May 2nd.

Topological and Homological Methods in Group Theory 2022

This is the third installment of the THGT conference series. As its predecessors, the conference takes place in Bielefeld in spring, and as before it welcomes researchers studying groups through their interactions with topology and homology, as well as people interested in entering the subject.

Geometry and Analysis on Non-Compact Manifolds

This conference will bring together researchers in Differential Geometry, in Geometric Analysis, and in their applications. The general focus of the conference will be on recent results on manifolds with bounded geometry, on singular stratified spaces and on the geometry and analysis on these spaces. More concretely, we will invite researchers from several areas, including: complete manifolds with special holonomy and their moduli spaces, stratified spaces, index theory on Riemannian and Lorentzian manifolds, spectral theory of geometric differential operators, relations between geometric analysis and conformal geometry, such as the Yamabe problem on singular and non-compact spaces and generalizations thereof. We envision that the interactions between the participants in this Conference will lead to applications to limits and collapse of manifolds with curvature bounds, moduli spaces, general relativity, the wave equation on curved spacetimes, as well as to singular partial differential equations in general. One of the conference's main goals will be to foster interactions between these various areas of mathematics.

Train the Trainer - Mentoring Workshop for Women in Math

Female researchers in mathematics are underrepresented among their peers in most countries and on most career levels. One possible contribution to counteracting this gender gap is to offer specific mentoring programs for women in math in academia. We offer professional training for (prospective) mentors and people interested in setting up a mentoring program. Our focus is on mentoring for women in mathematics (and other theoretical sciences). The interactive mentoring training aims at preparing the participants for their future role as mentors and/or program organizers.

2nd Marburger Arbeitsgemeinschaft: The toral rank conjecture

This is the 2nd Marburger Arbeitsgemeinschaft Mathematik, each of which is devoted to an important unsolved question in pure mathematics, with the aim of giving the participants a complete picture of its state of the art. The topic of this Arbeitsgemeinschaft is the toral rank conjecture, which was formulated by Steven Halperin in 1985 and is one of the most prominent open problems in transformation groups.

Workshop on Finiteness properties

Our goal is to bring together experts on finiteness properties of groups and spaces with young reasearchers in related areas. We expect that this will lead to new connections and interactions and introduce new people to the field. To achieve this, our workshop will offer an attractive mix of minicourses and research talks.
